Introduction to Math Competition for Chinese Students (Age 13-16)

(Teachers speak Chinese, Finnish, and English)

This course introduces algebra through the lens of mathematical competition. You will also learn about the Finnish education system, and math and coding competition paths for Chinese students. Parents are welcome to attend the first lecture, which focuses on planning a student's academic path from middle school to high school and university.

The course will be primarily taught in Finnish for language educational purposes, but Chinese explanation is always available.

Price 160 € including accommodation in double rooms and meals.

Monday

11:30 AM – Arrival and lunch

12:30–2:00 PM | Lecture on the Finnish education system and tips for Chinese students applying to universities. Includes a brief overview of math and coding competitions in Finland.
 (Parents can attend this session – very important!)

2:00–2:15 PM | Coffee break (Parents may leave after the break)

3:00–5:00 PM | A competition-level math exam for students to understand the format and difficulty of math competitions

From 5:00 PM | Dinner and free time (Teachers will be present and available for questions)

6:00–8:00 PM | Chess, football, volleyball, basketball and ultimate activities available

 

Tuesday

8:30–8:55 AM | Breakfast

9:00–11:30 AM | Introduction to competitive and high school-level mathematics

11:30 AM–12:30 PM | Lunch

12:30–2:00 PM | Introduction to algebra

2:00–3:00 PM | Coffee break

3:00–5:00 PM | Algebra exercises

From 5:00 PM | Dinner and free time (Teachers will be present and available for questions)

6:00–8:00 PM | Chess, football, volleyball, basketball and ultimate frisbee activities available

Wednesday

8:30–8:55 AM | Breakfast

9:00–11:30 AM | Advanced algebra and useful formulas

11:30 AM–12:30 PM | Lunch

12:30–2:00 PM | Continued: Advanced algebra and useful formulas

2:00–3:00 PM | Coffee break

3:00–5:00 PM | Exercises using newly learned formulas

From 5:00 PM | Dinner and free time (Teachers will be present and available for questions)

6:00–8:00 PM | Chess, football, volleyball, basketball and ultimate frisbee activities available

Thursday

8:30–8:55 AM | Breakfast

9:00–11:30 AM | Final exam to test students on what they have learned

11:30 AM–12:30 PM | Lunch

12:30–2:00 PM | Group discussion:

·         How to get into math competitions

·         How to study effectively

·         Academic and competition pathways for the future

2:00–3:00 PM | Coffee break — Course ends after the break
